While no minor is required for the BS, a proficiency in at least one second area is recommended. Most high school theatre teachers also teach Speech and/or English. Take courses in American/English literature and grammar when possible. Other areas of competence may be music, dance or any other regular high school subject. It is recommended that students consider seeking full certification in a second area. Under the new certification guidelines teachers must have certification or have an endorsement to teach any subject. An endorsement may be applied for after completing eighteen hours in a subject (equivalent to a minor). It is essential that this be included in the program–or extra summer classes must be taken.
