The Department of Theatre and Dance at Appalachian State University is searching for an Assistant Professor in Dance Studies who demonstrates an ability to teach a broad range of coursework in an expanding and diverse dance program offering an undergraduate major. Specifically, the applicant is expected to:

  • Have the ability to teach technique in at least two areas: Modern, Ballet, or Jazz preferred.
  • Have the ability to teach at least two of the following: Pedagogy, Somatics, Classical Pilates, Choreography, Dance Technology, Dance Appreciation/History/Cultures, or other related coursework.
  • Direct and choreograph for student productions, work collaboratively on creative projects and/or conduct scholarly research.
  • Share responsibilities for advising, mentoring and program development.
  • Display consistent, collegial commitment and service to the department, university, and profession.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence in an undergraduate, liberal arts program with a multicultural perspective.

Qualifications:  
Earned Terminal degree in dance; MFA or PhD required. Teaching experience in a college/university setting preferred. Compensation commensurate with experience/qualifications.
