Dean – College of Fine and Applied Arts
Appalachian State University
Beginning July 1, 2009

Appalachian State University seeks a visionary administrator who is capable of promoting faculty excellence in teaching, research/creative activity and service, with demonstrated success in fundraising. The successful candidate will encourage programmatic excellence and innovation, cross-disciplinary collaborations, and collegiality across diverse disciplines. The new dean should provide leadership and commitment to diversity, equity, and transparency within the university community. Qualifications: Candidates must have earned a terminal degree; have a substantial record of teaching, research and service; possess significant administrative experience; and have attained the rank of professor in an academic department. Candidates must also be eligible to hold a tenured appointment in one of the academic departments in the college.

The College: The College has more than 3,000 undergraduate and graduate majors, 120 faculty and staff, and 10,000 alumni. The diversity of the College brings together a variety of perspectives from the Departments of Art, Communication, Family and Consumer Science, Health, Leisure and Exercise Science, Military Science and Leadership, Nursing, Technology and Theatre and Dance. With the recent creation of the new College of Health Sciences and Allied Professions, the Departments of Nursing, Health, Leisure and Exercise Science, and the foods and nutrition programs in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences will move to the new College. The remaining programs in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences will move to the College of Education.
