Rebecca Keeter has enjoyed a long career as a dancer, choreographer and dance educator at Appalachian State University where she presently teaches Dance Pedagogy, Modern Dance and Dance Appreciation. She holds an MA from Appalachian State University, a Graduate Certification in Dance Education K-12, and a BS in Education with Concentrations in Dance from East Carolina University. Before coming to Appalachian, she studied under master professor Mavis Ray (assistant choreographer to Agnes de Mille) at East Carolina University and at the North Carolina School of the Arts. Rebecca has extensive experience as a dance educator with K-12 students in public schools. She spent many years as an Artist in Residence teaching dance and movement in the public schools throughout Western North Carolina. For several years, she taught dance (K-12) in Caldwell County Schools and was named Dance Educator of the Year by the NC State Department of Instruction. She has been active in community art schools, state and local schools and participated in the development of the NC Standard Course of Study for Dance. One of Rebecca’s passions is to observe, participate in, and document local dance traditions in her many travels both at home and abroad.
