Overview
The theatre generalist degree offers a broad spectrum of courses to prepare you for multiple careers.   The coursework for this degree includes acting, technical work, theatre history, management skills, directing, and more. There are no audition or portfolio requirements for this degree.

Core Requirements:
After admission to the university, your first few semesters are spent completing what is called a "core curriculum." This degree requires the same core classes every ASU student takes during their first years of college. After your core is underway, you can declare your major. After you declare your major, you begin to take more classes in your degree area. These are on the Degree Checksheet. We recommend that you come to the Department as soon as you can to get involved. You do not have to be a declared major to participate in our productions.

Other Requirements:
You will meet with an advisor at least once a semester. This is an informal time to plan your classes and talk about your experience at ASU. Additional advisor visits are optional. During your junior year there is an interview to make sure you are on a successful path. This is to explore career options and short and long-term goals.

This program requires that you complete the core curriculum and then take the classes listed below. This is a sample curriculum that will have slight changes per year. Your advisor will have a definite list based on your year of entry, or you can view the ASU Undergraduate Bulletin. Students planning to major in Theatre should avoid THR 2011 Introduction to Theatre. This course is a survey that meets the humanities core. Majors should enroll in Dance, Art, or Music for their humanities requirement.

I. University Core Curriculum Requirements -- 44 hours

Majors are required to take THR 3733 Theatre History, Literature, and Criticism II as part of their 12 hours of Core Humanities

3 s.h.of required Theatre History courses (THR 3730 or THR 3735) can also be counted toward Core Humanities.

II. Foreign Language -- 6-12 hours

(Completion of 6 s.h. at the intermediate level is required)

III. Major Requirements --40 hours*

*(Caution: When calculating total hours for graduation, if THR 3730 or 3735 are counted as Core Humanities caluculate major hours as 37 not 40)

C. Theatre Activities

Theatre majors seeking the BA degree must enroll in THR 2101-2108 (0-1) for a minimum of four semesters. Three of these must be in different Production Activities: THR 2101-2104

Majors should expect to take these for 0 credit.

D. All theatre majors must sucessfully complete a Senior Presentation.

IV. Minor (Required with approval of advisor) -- 12 - 18 hours.

V. Free Electives -- 11- 23 hours

Minimum semester hours required for graduation -- 122 hours.

At least 76 hours must be non-theatre courses.
